Paragon Software in Demand at Top Schools and Universities
Educational Institutions Rely on Paragon for Managing and Securing Data
It’s becoming the theme of 2009 — doing more with less. With educational institutions being forced to operate in the face of budget constraints and staff reductions, time and money are of the essence. Paragon Software Group (PSG), the technology leader in innovative data security and data management solutions, is becoming the technology provider of choice for schools and universities that are looking to save time and money while ensuring effective hard drive and storage management and data protection.
From protecting critical path data to sharing data files on a network between Windows, Mac and Linux systems, Paragon Software has a solution that meets the requirements of educational institutions of all sizes. Paragon’s solutions are simple to install and operate, ensuring the safety of critical data as well as allowing for business continuity — at a price point that is significantly more affordable than competing offerings.
Hundreds of K-12 schools and major universities including, Indiana University-Purdue University, the University of North Carolina, the University of California, Irvine, Talent Unlimited High School, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and St. Johns University are choosing Paragon’s solutions to manage and secure their data.
“For over 15 years, educational institutions of all sizes have been relying on Paragon Software; this experience has provided us with a unique perspective and a strong understanding of what these schools need in terms of backup and recovery,” noted Tom Fedro, president of Paragon Software Group, Americas. “Our comprehensive portfolio has something for everyone — from major state universities, to local community colleges to entire K-12 school districts.”
Offering complete system backup along with a powerful system restore functionality, Paragon’s Drive Backup Server technology is being used by New York City’s Talent Unlimited High School and the University of Indiana-Purdue to guard against data loss. According to Indiana-Purdue’s IT manager, School of Physical Education and Tourism, David Hoffmann, “In my department, we have many distance learning courses that utilize large video files, and tape space limitations combined with time constraints were making the back up of these files on tape nearly impossible. On top of that, the point solutions the University had in place were both slow and unreliable. By replacing these two products with one comprehensive solution from Paragon, Drive Backup Server, I was able to save more than three hours of my time each day and make fast, reliable, constant backups and images to a SAN instead of tape drives. Drive Backup Server is completely reliable, and I no longer have to spend time troubleshooting to try and determine why my backup didn’t run — it just works.”
Paragon’s Partition Manager Server is in use at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and the University of North Carolina. Both Universities rely on Paragon’s solution to protect critical data by making copies of data partitions from production servers to backup servers for safekeeping. At UCI, Partition Manager Server enables IT managers to resize primary hard drives when available space becomes limited. The hard drive’s usefulness is then extended by moving unallocated free space from a D: drive to a C: drive.
St. Johns University in Queens, New York has deployed multiple licenses of Paragon’s NTFS for Mac, one of Paragon’s Universal File System Drivers that provides full read/write access to Windows NTFS data partitions from a Mac OS.
One of the largest school districts in the United States, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, uses Paragon’s System recovery 7.0 and Deployment Manager 8.5 to protect and manage 250 workstations. Together, these two solutions allow administrators to quickly restore operating systems to a factory setting with the click of a mouse, allow a system with a damaged hard drive to be restored from a recovery CD/DVD and remotely update multiple workstations at the same time with new system images — saving valuable time when reconfiguring computer labs for a different uses.
“Our commitment to the education market has led to it being the fastest growing segment of our customer base,” added Fedro. “Paragon is working very closely with these customers to provide them with the most cost effective and education focused portfolio of data management solutions in the market today.”
